Itinerary:
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
We depart early from Marrakech and begin our scenic drive across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, reaching elevations of over 2,260 meters. Along the way, we stop to admire panoramic views of traditional Berber villages and dramatic mountain landscapes.
Ait Ben Haddou – UNESCO World Heritage Site
Our first major highlight is Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village recognized for its exceptional earthen architecture. This UNESCO-listed ksar has served as the backdrop for numerous international films and remains one of Morocco’s most iconic historical landmarks. We explore its ancient alleyways and climb to the top for breathtaking desert views.
Ouarzazate – Gateway to the Sahara
We continue toward Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Here, we pass near the historic Kasbah Taourirt and enjoy the changing scenery as we move toward the Valley of Roses and into the spectacular Dades Valley.
By evening, we arrive in Dades Valley where we spend the night in a charming hotel surrounded by towering red rock formations and lush oasis landscapes.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Sahara Desert
After breakfast, we continue toward the impressive Todra Gorges, where dramatic limestone cliffs rise up to 300 meters high. We take time to walk through the narrow gorge and enjoy the refreshing river that flows between the rock walls.
Our journey proceeds through Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops, before reaching the desert village of Merzouga, located at the edge of the Sahara.
Camel Trek Across the Erg Chebbi Dunes
In the late afternoon, we meet our camel caravan and begin our unforgettable trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. As the sun sets over the Sahara, the dunes transform into stunning shades of gold, orange, and red.
Overnight in a Traditional Desert Camp
Upon arrival at our desert camp, we are welcomed with Moroccan mint tea. After a delicious traditional dinner, we gather around the campfire to enjoy Berber music beneath a sky illuminated by thousands of stars. Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes
We wake early to witness a breathtaking Sahara sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we ride our camels back to Merzouga where our driver awaits to begin the final leg of the journey toward Fes.
Ziz Valley – A Lush Desert Oasis
Our route passes through the stunning Ziz Valley, famous for its extensive palm groves and panoramic viewpoints. The contrast between fertile valleys and surrounding arid mountains creates unforgettable scenery.
Midelt and the Middle Atlas Mountains
We continue toward Midelt, located between the High Atlas and Middle Atlas Mountains, before ascending through cedar forests where Barbary macaques can often be seen.
